چکیده

We explore the construction of parametric surfaces which interpolate prescribed 3D scattered data using spaces of parametric splines defined on a 2D triangulation. The method is based on minimizing cettain natura1 energy expressions. Several examples involving filling hoies and crowning surfaces are presented, and the role of the triangulation as a Parameter is explored. The problem of creating closed surfaces is also addressed. This requires introducing spaces of splines on certain generalized triangulations. Subdivision Schemes for Thin Plate Splines

Thin plate splines are a well known entity of geometric design. They are defined as the minimizer of a variational problem whose differential operators approximate a simple notion of bending energy. Therefore, thin plate splines approximate surfaces with minimal bending energy and they are widely considered as the standard “fair” surface model. Such surfaces are desired for many modeling and de...

An evolution model of parametric surface deformation using finite elements based on B-splines

In this paper we introduce a dynamic evolution model in order to deform parametric surfaces. In order to do it, we present the associate variational formulation to the problem of minimize an energy functional. Its numerical resolution is developed using a finite element method based on B-splines. We compute the spatial discretitation where the finite elements are defined and we show that a redu...

Fitting Scattered Data on Sphere-like Surfaces Using Spherical Splines

Spaces of polynomial splines deened on planar triangulations are very useful tools for tting scattered data in the plane. Recently, 4, 5], using homogeneous polynomials, we have developed analogous spline spaces deened on triangulations on the sphere and on sphere-like surfaces. Using these spaces, it is possible to construct analogs of many of the classical interpolation and tting methods. Her...

Spherical Parametrization of Genus-Zero Meshes using the Lagrange-Newton Method

This paper addresses the problem of spherical parametrization, i.e., mapping a given polygonal surface of genus-zero onto a unit sphere. We construct an improved algorithm for parametrization of genus-zero meshes and aim to obtain high-quality surfaces fitting with PHT-splines. This parametrization consists of minimizing discrete harmonic energy subject to spherical constraints and solving the ...

A variational approach to spline curves on surfaces

Given an m-dimensional surface Φ in R, we characterize parametric curves in Φ, which interpolate or approximate a sequence of given points p i ∈ Φ and minimize a given energy functional. As energy functionals we study familiar functionals from spline theory, which are linear combinations of L norms of certain derivatives. The characterization of the solution curves is similar to the well-known ...
